Calliarts - Word of the Month - Final Edition

Dear Members and Followers,

“Word of the Month” Book

On Saturday 12 Nov 2016 our Calliart was the assembly of our “Word of the Month” pieces into a booklet under the guidance of our tutor Penny Laver. It was an afternoon of fun with wielding of hammers and awls and needle and thread in our foray once more into the art of basic bookbinding. We even drew the interest of cricketers in the adjacent field who came to see what all the tapping was about.

The finished products were diverse and interesting with some very imaginative covers and it was a satisfying completion to our yearlong project. Penny as always was very patient with our efforts at mastering the crisscrossing of threads in the binding and we all completed our task with a nicely bound little book.

Starry - The Word a Month

The stars were out when those of us participating in the word of the month presented the word 'Starry'.

Word a Month - Labyrinth

Dear Members and Followers,

While the break was on, the calligraphers participating in the word a month had extra time to catch up on their words or to carefully think about this month's word, labyrinth.

Did you know that the definition of Labyrinth is:

A complicated irregular network of passages or paths in which it is difficult to find one's way; a maze.

What I did not know, is that there is a second definition:

A complex structure in the inner ear which contains the organs of hearing and balance. It consists of bony cavities (the bony labyrinth ) filled with fluid and lined with sensitive membranes (the membranous labyrinth ).

Dear Members and Followers,

Whether it was from a chess set, or a medieval one, built from sand or a dream one, the results were wonderful.

Word of Month - Zest

Zest had us all zinging along.

Word A Month - September - Rhythm

Dear Members and Followers,

As you will remember we are currently running a Word A Month project and the word to be brought along to September was Rhythm. Did we have some rhythm? Check out below and see!

Word of the Month - Winter

Dear Members and followers,

Calligraphy Southscribes has introduced a word of the month. At each of our monthly meetings the committee will advise of the word for the month and the challenge is for all members to go forth and calligraphy (?) that word.

The word for June was Winter and the few pieces completed are shown below. We would love to see more work for the next month and the word for July is August.
