Calliarts - Colour and the Colour Wheel

Dear Members and Followers,

What a serendipitous moment that we bring you a Calliarts based on Colour as the season changes into Autumn and nature works with a limited palate.

This afternoon is tutored by Gloria who reveals:

When deciding to use colour in calligraphy and artwork we need to understand colour and how it works. In this three-hour workshop we will create a colour wheel from primary to secondary, tertiary and associated tints, shades and tones. A few simple exercises will lead from brush to pen and writing colour on colour. With just three primary colours at our fingertips we become magicians!

We look forward to seeing you on the 10 March 2018.

Costs and materials list on the Workshops page.

Back to Work - February Workshop and Calliarts

Dear Members and Followers,

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year, and as we come to the end of January (or nearly) it is time to think about or get organised for the February Workshops and Calliarts.

February
10th – Calliarts - Decorated Letter – Helen Warren

This workshop is designed to introduce a simple decorated letter using gouache colours.

17th – One Day Workshop - Back to Basics – Gloria Scott

The aim of this workshop is to clarify some very important aspects of calligraphy: the pen angle, slope of letterform, etc.  We will find the pen angle from a text if it is not given on handouts, the ductus, the sequence of strokes, space between letters and words, margins and interlinear space.  These are the basics of writing good calligraphy.  We will work on basic letter forms e.g. Bookhand and Italic. If, however you have a letterform you need to improve, please bring the alphabet guide sheet and you can work on that. An often-repeated phrase “we never stop learning” might also be “we never stop relearning”.
