For our last month of the year please join us for a calliarts and workshop based on Pointed Gothic.

– Calliarts – An introduction to Pointed Gothic – Gloria Scott
In
preparation for workshop on following Saturday 17th November, we will prepare
for the full day workshop, beginning with guide lines for various nib widths,
basic strokes and “shadow letterforms”.
17th
– Workshop – Pointed Gothic – Gloria Scott
This is an attractive and versatile letterform. It has
some very distinctive basic strokes that are not dissimilar to Batarde, with
the internal counter space based on the Mandela almond shape. We will follow on
from the preparatory exercises covered in our Calliart afternoon of the
previous week, 10th November. As Christmas is just around the corner we will
"Create for Christmas", using this
letterform for cards, bookmarks, gift wrap and other ideas for more formal or
extended uses. This letterform has many applications, suitable for varying pen
widths lettering. All levels of calligraphy are welcome.

Bring your usual gear, broad nib,
Speedball 1 and Speedball 3 or similar, two 2B pencils.
17 November – Workshop – Pointed Gothic – Gloria Scott
Your
usual Calligraphy gear, plus the pen nibs used at the previous Calliart
introduction (i.e. broad nib, Speedball 1 and Speedball 3 or similar, two 2B
pencils).
Colour
ink or gouache, premixed for use with a pen nib
Some
offcuts of suitable card for exercises, also one A4 piece of light card, Canson
or watercolour paper, 180gsm.
A
long strip of Canson or other similar paper , length 70cm + minimum width 15cm
