Calliarts - Tiny Writing

Dear Members,

After the AGM on Saturday, we are having our monthly Calliarts which promises to be little scripts but big fun!

Tiny Writing is a unique skill, which is useful for artwork, journaling, calligraphy and card making for beginner to immediate skill level. Areas you can use tiny writing are reference lines, author name and scripsit, invitation and birth announcements, using them for accents, poetry, bookmarks, making your own family history/bible, scrollwork and circular work. In class, we will examine historical uses and review contemporary illustrations. We will spend the few hours exploring techniques and some scripts for participants to use.
An exemplar will be available on the day. To ensure you receive a copy please let us know you are coming a week before the class. This will ensure I have enough copies; I do not want anyone to miss out.
If you have an idea for an art work you want to work on in class, bring it. Knowing which Nib works best for your choice of script, including what size will improve it, so bring your workbook to put your examples in for future reference.
Copics will be used and if you can go to a Daiso shop buy their black gel pens 0.38; these are fabulous.

Pictures are examples of tiny writing but script may not be taught on the day!

Teensy, Weensy with Julie Williams

Dear Members and Followers,

We are spoilt for choice for lettering courses and workshops in February. Another one to add to your list is 'Teensy, Weensy' with Julie Williams.

We will discover the most successful ways to ‘write small’ on paper using a variety of nibs and other tools. We will turn to some of the pages from the beautiful Mira Calligraphiae Monumenta created in 1561-1562 for inspiration. Students will draw on their knowledge of classic scripts such as italic, roman and foundational hand, as well as scripts in the Mira Calligraphiae as the basis for their lettering styles. Beginners are very welcome, however they should have a basic knowledge of how to use a chisel nib with ink and one style of calligraphic script. A series of smaller “postcards” will be made by students to keep for future reference.
