Stop the Presses

Dear Members and Followers,

Just arrived in the Library -

The Colophon produced by the ASC has an article on Denis Brown (Visiting Aust. in May) by Calligraphy Master (part 1); an interview with Lorraine Brady from Nelson, New Zealand (www.lorrainebrady.co.nz); and Colours in Manuscripts of the Medieval Period - Symbols of colours and why they were use by Pat Moody.


The Dancing Pen from Tasmania has reports on 'Bring Your Own Projects' and on the SSIW 'Brody Neuenschwander - Text creating Texture' and 'Writing the Ramsay Psalter'.


Finally from New Zealand, there is a workshop report on 'Contemporary Copperplate'; about a website called 'Calligraphy Masters' at www.calligraphymasters also on Facebook. There are some Christmas Crafts to make, a profile of Rose Browning and another report on a Calligraphy Retreat and Artwork.

With Vincent Jeanerot visiting the ASC, they publish a review of Vincent's workshop 'Perfect Peonies and Captivating Camellias!' The illustrations are exquisite. 2015 is the 800th Anniversary of the Magna Carta, so Margaret Layson writes about the copy she made for the committee touring schools and colleges around the country. Also included 'Introducing Ironshizuku Inks' and A Modern Batarde Script - Workshop by Lexie Arlington. 

Our Library Presents - Friends With Benefits

Dear Members and Followers,

One of the benefits of belonging to Calligraphy Southscribes is that we are friends with other Calligraphy groups Australia and New Zealand wide and get to share their magazines with them. Here is what has just hit the shelves.

New to the Library - Canberra Calligraphy Society Magazine and Postscript - The Calligraphy Society of Victoria's magazine, which include a calligraphy retreat for the lucky Canberra members and for Victoria it's the new committee, the Royal Melbourne Show 2012, Deidre Hassed workshop amongst other interesting articles. Pop-in and read awhile!

Dear Members and Followers,

We've just received two new magazines to the collection that are well worth a read:

'The Dancing Pen' from Tasmania featuring a workshop report about Gyounghee Lee's Treasure Box.
(Gyounghee used to be one of our members before moving to Melbourne).

'Colophon' features a retrospective on William Lai of Wills Quills, a report on Megan McDonald the guest artist at the ASC's Exhibition and workshops gone with Gemma Black and to come with Massimo Polello.

Library and Latest Magazines

Dear Members,

As our new magazine comes out for the next quarter, I am reminded that Calligraphy Southscribes boasts an excellent library for the use of all of its members. The library consists of an extensive range of calligraphy books plus magazines from other calligraphy societies.

If you are attending a workshop or the Saturday meeting take some time out to use the library and perhaps borrow something. Our librarian Dorothy is always available to lend a hand and check out some books for you.
