November Calliarts - It's Ribbons on Your Paper

 Dear Members and Followers,

Put ribbons in your hair or around your old oak tree but have you tried ribbon writing? No! Then come join us for a fun afternoon to get you in the mood for Christmas.

So gather your graphite and coloured pencils in readiness for what promises to be a fun afternoon of “ribbon writing”.  These drawn letters will look as though they have been formed by twisted ribbon.  They can be used for greeting cards, envelopes, place cards and decorative headings and, with the festive season quickly approaching, we will concentrate on Christmas themes.  This workshop will be a great opportunity to get your creative juices flowing as you play with pencils, watercolour pencils and/or gouache or water colours to create a small project or two.

April Calliarts - Neuland

Dear Members and Followers,

This month yours truly is swapping her blogging and president's hats to tutor Neuland. The Neuland script is a chunky typeface designed by Rudolph Koch in the 1920’s and calligraphers and lettering artists still use it in a variety of ways today. Neuland letters are excellent to draw, cut, layer and outline, with this in mind, the first half of the Calliart will be dedicated to learning the script while the second half will be spent exploring ways you can use it.

Materials List:
 · Chisel edge nibs – a variety of sizes · Usual Calligraphy Gear (Ink and/or gouache, Layout pad, Ruler, Graphite pencil and eraser, etc.) · Tracing paper · Carpenter’s pencil (or similar broad edge pencil) · Watercolour pencils (12 pack) · Coloured pencils (12 pack) · Some fine pointed paint brushes – e.g., 0, 00, 000 (bring along what you have) · Fine-line waterproof black marker * · Fine-line white marker* · Stencil knife or similar to cut out letters (very pointed small scissors will suffice if you do not want to use a knife) · Cutting mat · A piece of black card (A4 is fine, this is to make a card with) · A piece of coloured paper (can be wrapping paper, Japanese paper, etc.) *Officeworks varieties are excellent.

As we hinted on Insta, we're back in February and what a better way to start the year than with Copperplate tutored by Glenis.
