Ondine - June 16 - Calligraphy Workshop

Dear Members and Followers,

Come along to our June calligraphy workshop and enjoy the hand of Ondine. We are one of the few calligraphy societies that teach this script so don't miss out. Our tutor will be Gloria Scott.

"This is a very attractive letterform, with many applications, particularly

useful  as it does not have long ascender or descender strokes,

great for cards, envelopes, etc.   Beginners welcome as it is very

achievable in a one day workshop."

• Calligraphy gear as usual

• plus coloured pencils

• graphite pencil 2B or 2H

• two or three pieces of light cardoffcuts of A4, strips etc, don’t go to any expense over this

• chisel edge pens, eg. speedball 3 or 2, Brause, Mitchell equivalent.

• ink or gouache

June Calliarts - Brush Lettering

Dear Members,

Don't brush aside your calligraphy in winter because it is too cold, instead join us for June's calliarts "Brush Lettering" with Helen Warren.

This workshop will include demonstrations and Practical exercises using various types of brushes. We will learn an alphabet then have fun with some word pictures.

•  Please bring your usual kit plus any brushes you have.

• A small newspaper and some white cheapish paper for practice,$2 cartridge paper will do.

• A piece of cloth to wipe your brushes

• Also a water container  (small jar)

USUAL CALLIGRAPHIC GEAR

• Layout pad
• Dip nibs, eg. Brause, Mitchell, Speed **
• Nib holders **
•  Pencil – HB or F
• Eraser
• Ruler
• Non-waterproof black ink, eg Chinese ink
• Gouache or water colour paint if you wish to write in colour
• If using paint – mixing brushes/waterjar/palette(s)
• Rags/paper towel/tissues – for wiping nibs and keeping area clean and tidy.
• Slope board (if you have one)

** If you do not have nibs and nib holders bring your chisel edged felt tip pen.

Calliarts - Monograms - Saturday 12 May 2018

Dear Members and Followers,

Feeling creative? Then channel your calligraphic talents in another direction and create some monograms, for you, the family and friends.

A monogram is a combination of two or more letters, in which one letter forms part of another and cannot be separated from the whole image. Monograms are used for ornamentation as a mark of ownership by a private person, Company or as a Trade Mark. A monogram is a very useful for identifying your hand made articles such as book plates, bookmarks, cards etc. The Calliart workshop will cover how to incorporate Initials into a pleasing design using different techniques giving a clear image that can be reduced to small scale without losing clarity.

Where: Sylvania Community Hall, Canberra Rd, Sylvania (aka Gwawley Bay Soccer Club)

Cost: $10.00

You will need:

·         Pencil, Eraser, Ruler, Sharpener.

·         Geometry Compass (Optional)

·         Bleed proof Practice Pad.

·         Tracing Paper.

·         Black Ink or paint.

·         Fine paint Brush,

·         Palette and 2 Water Jars.

·         1-piece A5 Watercolour paper.

·         Coloured pencils, Paints etc. if you want to add coloured decoration.

·         Magnifying Glass or Magnifying Glasses if you have them.  Do Not buy them especially.
